Alexander VIRGILI  Report by Alexander Virgili

On the occasion of GIS Day 2018, the Corpo Italiano di San Lazzaro organized a workshop on GIS and Disaster management. The meeting took place on November 14th at the headquarters of LIDU Napoli, an organization with which we have been collaborating for years.

The aim of the workshop is to present the significant potential of the GIS for disaster management, in all its phases: forecasting, prevention, management of emergency assistance in the field, re-establishment of the normal situation after emergencies. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Italian Red Cross – CRI, the Campania Region officers, professionals and members of various associations.

Speakers at the workshop were Prof. Antonio Virgili, Commander of the Corpo Italiano and expert in disaster management, and Eng. Mariangela Garramone, representative of the Corpo Italiano di San Lazzaro for training and expert on GIS applications in the field of emergencies. Particular appreciation was expressed by various participants, and was asked not only to replicate the workshop but to organize one with greater depth for the training of civil protection volunteers. During the meeting, the informative and technical material provided by ESRI Italia was distributed free of charge to the participants, with whom the Corps has been collaborating since 2013.
