Day of German Unity
3rd October 2017
Again in 2017 the ambassador in Austria of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Johannes Handl, invited approximately 500 guests of the world of business, politics and society in the beautiful “Palais Liechtenstein” to celebrate the Day of German Unity.
As a high-ranking guest of honour the German Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel came and he surprised everyone with a real good and remarkable speech about the way of the German Unity, the European Union at the present time and the requirements for the future.
The appropriate ceremonial address was given by the cabaret artist Werner Schneider in a very humorous and also a little satirical way and this was the source of a good deal of merriment and smiles
As in previous years the Music Corps of the Lazarus Union carried out the music programme under the direction of the conductor Friedrich Lentner as its part for the Day of Unity and also during the agape that was arranged for the invited guests.
The Lazarus Union was represented by the Grand Protector Federal Minister ret. Dr. Werner Fasslabend (right), President Senator Prof.h.c. Wolfgang Steinhardt and the Vice President H.E. Chev. Ludwig Brunner.
The German Minister of Foreign Affairs who enquired about the Lazarus Union and got a brochure of the Lazarus Union as well as the ambassador talked with our conductor at the end of the ceremony and they both especially thanked for the support and the performance. We considered this a very nice and extraordinary gesture because both the ambassador and also the Minister of Foreign Affairs mentioned the Lazarus Union in their addresses.
During the following agape it was possible to talk with old friends and to get to know new friend. Again it was a very successful ceremony!
