Report by Alexander Virgili, Captain CSLI
Held every 13th October, the International Day for Disaster Reduction celebrates how people and communities around the world are reducing their exposure to disasters and raising awareness about the importance of reining in the risks that they face.
The 2016 edition marks the launch of the new “Sendai Seven” campaign, centred on the seven targets of the United Nations Sendai Framework. The 2016 slogan is “Live to Tell” as this year’s target is reducing mortality. The CSLI Italia, wishing to contribute to the campaign and to the targets, has organized a public meeting, inviting professional associations, scientific institutes, associations and citizens.
They have given the moral support to the meeting the professional associations of: Geologists, Urban Planners, Engineers, Lawyers, Architects, Sociologists. Moreover research and civil organizations, among the others: ISPRA (Advanced Institute for Environmental Protection and Research), LIDU (Italian League of Human Rights), INAF (Italian National Institute of Astrophysics- Capodimonte Astrophysical Observatory), CSI (International Studies Institute), MSOI (Student Movement for the International Organization), ESIC (European Society for Image and Communications), Former Parliamentarians Association.
We wish to thank all them for the moral support received. The presence of several speakers and many interventions have characterized the crowded meeting. International, national and local environmental and land risk and crises situations have been discussed in an interdisciplinary vision.
The meeting works have been recorded and broadcast by a national diffusion radio. We consider it the first of a series of meetings on the theme that we are going to realize in the next months and every year on 13th October, whose contents will be collected in monographs and/or multimedia products, because among priorities of CSLI Italia are risk information and prevention.
