Summer Festival of Peace” in the SOF-Section Köthen/Saxony-Anhalt

Bernd Höhle   „Interims Report“ by GenMjr CSLI Bernd Höhle

It is a special sign of appreciation when people get together to teach values and do good. Nowadays it becomes very difficult to teach values.

Just when we talk about this and discussion comes up we get a clear disaster of different arguments and opinions. F.E. the following ones: “People find the values of their culture or society not a leading or orienting issue” or “People are not aware which values are determining factors in their society or culture. But this lies in our hands.

Our personal impression is that we think maybe too global in many things – to put it diplomatically. Very quickly we forget that many things occur on our own doorstep and that our children and younger people are exposed to too many values with such things. In order to teach values they have to be lived. One of this point living things in the sense of humanity in a specific way can be found in Germany. Clearly spoken in the SOF-Section Köthen in the “Bundesland” Saxony-Anhalt. In the school for paramedics of SOF-Staff Commander and CSLI Major Raymond Schulz humanity and values get together and show charity to the neighbours. In this sense a special “Summer Festival of Peace” was celebrated for all those who do good to help other people.

The Festival was attended by many personalities, f.e. the Mayor of Köthen, Prince Eduard Duke of Anhalt Duke of Saxony, The Imperial and Royal Highnesses of Habsburg Lothringen, a delegation of the Order of Heinrich III, a police delegation of Köthen, the county commissioner Uwe Schulz and many more. This event was of course supported actively by the Special Forces of the Lazarus Union CSLI “The Sword of Freedom-Corps” to the largest extent. With such a special occasion the network of people who do not only talk about the peace we all need, but who live it, should come together. So during the “Summer Festival of Peace” everybody could promote the values and could share them with others.

At the beginning of the event it was possible to visit the church of Köthen. The local priest already expected the invited guests and thanked all the helpers and supporters. At this respectful location further persons had also the occasion to spoke to the audience and to thank for all the things done. Afterwards the priest made it possible to visit the tomb of the church. Finally this moment was impressive and historically interesting for all invited guests.

The entertaining programme was an active support and was created by artists both large and small. Among others participants were the “Schützengilde” of Köthen, a folk group and the Russian-German-Choir, a Biker Club who collected money and gave it for charity. Furthermore a childrens’ circus and the Duo Köthen as well as the local Dancing- and Singing-Group carried out the music programme. The SOF-Corps Commander and CSLI GenMjr Bernd Höhle as well as the SOF Chief Commander and CSLI Col. Danny Koch had the honourable task to give a radio interview. It was their concern to inform the audience about the importance of being respectful for the smallest treats of everyday life.

Finally this is one of the most important requirements of life. Values are a like a compass in our lives and a good guide for everybody. And that we are on the right track and that we let us guide by our compass, which we create ourselves is proven by the fact, that at the SOF-Section Köthen a monument for peace “Flame of Peace” was revealed and inaugurated and the SOF Commander and CSLI GenMjr Bernd Höhle was distinguished with the “Flame of Peace”.

A great “Summer Festival of Peace” came to an end after many hours we spend together with the people of Köthen.

Thanks to all persons who are not mentioned here but who will not be forgotten and who realised this great event!
